What’s New in MsgFiler 4.1.2

MsgFiler 4.1.2 has been approved by Apple and is making its way to the Mac App Store and Gumroad. This is a point release with mostly bug fixes and improvements, though there are a few new features based on customer feedback.

New Features

  • Added keyboard shortcuts Control-N and Control-P to navigate within the mailbox table.
  • Added ability to show only the mailbox name of favorite mailboxes.

Improvements

  • Recent mailboxes are shown in reverse order, with the most recent mailbox appearing at the top of the list.

Miscellaneous

  • Added privacy manifest file for App Store.
  • Bug fixes and improvements.

Silent Crash Bug Progress

To address the mysterious silent crashing problem, MsgFiler has reduced the number of times it checks to see if the Mail app is running. Users who are experiencing the silent crash bug should report back to see if the change was successful.

  1. It’s very non-obvious where to find updates on Gumroad. Eventually I discovered you have to click on the button that says “View Content” next to “You’ve purchased this product”. But it took me quite a while, clicking my way all over that site and yours, to stumble on this. Wish it were more obvious.

      1. Those links work — thank you. The links in your blog post were different, and were the ones that left me hunting for the file.

  2. Thanks Adam for adding the old emacs keyboard shortcuts to scroll up and down in the mailbox list. One slight glitch though, if you scroll down past the bottom, the scroll doesn’t move with the highlighted item automatically, as it does in most applications. It would be great to have the scroll bar move so that the highlighted mailbox is always in view. I appreciate your willingness to add things like this, very useful!

  3. Have used Msgfiler for a very long time.

I am now finding that messages (maybe mostly gmail) that I have ‘moved’ into my boxes bounce back again into my inbox. Makes it almost not worth using. Suggestions?

    1. Assume you have moved over to MsgFiler 4? Likely reasons why the messages are reappearing:

      1. Make sure the filing method you are using is correct between Archive and File vs. Direct.

      2. Did you change the keyboard shortcut for Archive in Mail? MsgFiler 4 + Filing Script uses the default keyboard shortcut (Command-Control-A) when using the Archive and File method.

      3. I have worked with other users who have had to delete and re-add their Gmail accounts. Since this is an involved process, I have recommended doing the following to verify this fix works:

      A. Create a new user account on the Mac
      B. Add the Gmail account to the new user account.
      C. File a message using MsgFiler 4 + Filing Script. Do the messages disappear or reappear?

If they disappear as expected and are filed in the right mailbox, your Mail account on your primary user account needs to be recreated.

You can email me at support (at) MsgFiler (dot) com if you need additional assistance.
